Building a Framework. Abby of Just a Girl and Her Blog created this awesome resource for bloggers that are just starting out. This eBook has been a great help for me every step of the way. Recommended Blogging Tools for Any Blogger

These blogging tools have come in very handy for The Women Talk.

BlueHost: I have used Bluehost with couple of websites I have worked on earlier. I have never seen any downtime with any of my websites whenever I was with them. Their support team is amazing. If you are just starting your blogging journey then Bluehost is the company to go with. It’s very easy to register your domain name and hosting. Picmonkey. I found out about Picmonkey only after I started getting active in the blogger community. This is the graphics software that is widely used by so many bloggers. It is extremely easy to use and great features that it offers make is one of my favorite image editing software. You will be surprised to find out you are capable of making beautiful graphics once you start using Picmonkey.

Tailwind. My top most traffic referral is Pinterest. So obviously I wanted to use an automated tool so that I did not have to keep pinning all day long. Although there are many Pinterest Schedulers, and I tried a few. I liked Tailwind the most because of it’s easy to use platform and simple analysis of stats. This one is easy to use and you can start scheduling pins on Pinterest right away.

Genesis Framework: We got The Women Talk custom coded from scratch on WordPress theme, but Genesis Framework comes recommended by many expert bloggers. I have heard nothing but good things about Genesis. It is very easy to maintain your website from the dashboard, but if you still run into any issues, the helpful community forums there make sure that your tech issues are resolved pretty quickly. When you purchase the Framework, you also have to buy child them to go with the parent theme. There are many designers featured on Studiopress that you can choose to custom design your website. When it comes to food blog, their Foodie Pro and Daily Dish are the most popular themes among food bloggers.

Convertkit. I use Mailchimp as well as Convertkit to send newsletters to my subscribers. I love it because it is very simple to use and offers some powerful features making my job of sending newsletters very easy. WordPress Plugins

Yoast SEO. Most important part of your food blog is to be search engine friendly. When your blog shows up in search engines, people can find and reach your blog easily. In order to rank well in search engine, you need to optimize your blog. Yoast SEO plugin is the most popular WordPress plugin that is used to optimize any blog with meta data information.

CommentLuv. Engage your readers into leaving a comment on your blog by using commentluv plugin.

Easy Social Share Buttons. Social Media is as important as creating content for your blog. Sharing your content on social media is something that’s recommended as soon as your new content is up on the blog. I use Easy Social Share Buttons plugin to share the content on my blog posts. This plugin is very easy to install, setup and use.

Google Captcha. Eliminate spam using Google Captcha. You won’t believe the amount of spam you can receive on any of your blog posts. Google Captcha helps keep the bots away by having your readers enter the captcha before they leave a comment on your posts.

Yet Another Related Posts Plugins. User engagement is one of the most important factors in evaluating the success of a blog. When readers visit your blog, they should be able to see what other content is available on your blog, and keep reading. Yet Another Related Posts Plugins is the most popular plugins used for this purpose.

Vaultpress. I have run into the problem of my blog crashing down and me having no back up of my content or database. Since then I have started using back up services to make sure that a copy of backup is always available in case something like this to happen again. I use Vaultpress plugin in order to take back up of my blog and database.

Drive traffic to your blog

Once you have created and setup your blog, created a few blog posts, you want to focus on how to drive traffic to your blog. And believe you me, it is not an easy and quick task. This step requires all of your effort, time and lot of patience. You have to be consistent in your efforts and working hard in order to drive targeted traffic.

Social Media is huge in bringing traffic. Besides using regular Facebook groups, Pinterest Boards and Twitter.

Making Money from your blog

As much as it is fun to maintain a blog, it is also possible to generate (full time) income from one. You can display banner ads or text ads on your blog. Normally, banners are displayed on the sidebar and text ads are inserted in the blog post.

Sponsored Posts. Many brands want to create awareness about their products or services, so they connect with blogs to advertise about their services. Normally they contact bloggers either directly or via other mediums. Sometimes they offer their products or services for free to the bloggers, let them use and write an honest review about them. They sometimes pay for such services as well.

Affiliate Programs. When bloggers make money promoting other company’s products or services and get paid some commission. If you have a content rich site, you will find it easier to find specific affiliate programs. These are the affiliate programs that I am part of and make money from.
