When I first started blogging, it was supposed to be a creative outlet for me.
It never occurred to me that it was going to become my career and full time job.
It has since become my new best friend and I share all my tidbits with you through my blog.
Although I am happy with where my blog stands today, it has not been an easy journey.
Just like any other brick and mortar business, blogging requires all of your time, lots of effort and great amount of patience. I have learned so much during my blogging journey.
That’s why I decided to share the tools and resources that I use on this blog and my other blogs from time to time. These tools have been a life saver for me, and I simply could not have survived in the blogging world had it not been for these tools and resources.
Before you continue reading, my question for you – Do you own a self hosted blog? If not, now would be the good time to start one. Make sure to read my step by step tutorial on How to Start a Blog in Three Easy Steps!
#1. Convertkit, an Email Marketing Tool
If you are a blogger or provide a service, you must have heard about email marketing some million times already. Let me repeat it one more time:
Email Marketing is one of the most important components of blogging.
I have used Mailchimp extensively till now and I am a fan. However, I love to experiment with new services. ConvertKit is one such kind of new service that makes email marketing a breeze. I’m not saying it does everything for you, but it makes your job much easier as compared to other email service providers.
Although Mailchimp is free for the first 2000 subscribers, and offers competitive features, Convertkit is still a bloggers’ dream come true. I have used it on my classifieds website, my other blogs and simply love the wonderful features it offers. It’s great to use for Email Series and autoresponders. I’m still learning so many new features of this email provider but so far I’m loving it.
#2. Optinmonster, Convert Your Visitors into Subscribers
As I just mentioned in my point above, email list is extremely important for a blogging business to grow. I know … I know …. I am starting to sound like a broken record, but let me say it one more time. Email Marketing is an important component of blogging business.
This is one of the best ways to announce and market your newly launched product or service. I use Optinmonster to build my email list. It helps me convert my abandoning readers into subscribers by letting me create professionally designed optin forms.
I am glad that I can create these forms without having to write the strenuous code by myself. I only have to embed it in my blog. There are many locations you can use the optin form, I use it after my post, pop up for new reader and in the sidebar. I get a fairly well conversion rate with the Optinmonster.
#3. Tailwind, An Awesome Pinterest Scheduler
If you are a blogger, you must use Pinterest extensively. If you don’t, please make sure that you do.
Pinterest is the topmost traffic referral source to my blog. As much as I love browsing, pinning and repinning on Pinterest, I would still want this done automatically even while I’m sleeping or away on a vacation.
I love using Tailwind to schedule my pins ahead of time.
I schedule the pins for the coming weeks and forget about it. It does the job for me. I just have to schedule the pins to be pinned to different boards and group boards. Later on, I can see the performance on one pin over the other and have it repinned at a later date.
#4. Hootsuite, Manage Social Media
As soon as I publish a new blog post, I make it a point to share it across all my social media channels. I love Hootsuite because of it’s ability to share the blog posts for me at the scheduled time.
You can connect to most of the social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn, WordPress, Instagram and Youtube. You can simply schedule the next update on all the social channels that you have connected in your account, and rest of the job is done by this social media manager.
I have noticed the times when I get most tweets or Facebook likes are when I’m not even awake, or away from my laptop or phone.
So this social media manager is what helps me get maximum exposure to my blog and engagement with my social media audience. I ‘m using the free trial for now, but plan to use pro version after my trial finishes.
I am blown away by the traffic I have gained via my social media channels.
#5. Yoast SEO plugin, Optimize Your Blog Posts
Have you ever felt the excitement, the rush of adrenaline when your blog shows up in search results when someone was searching for a solution to their problem?
I have, and I realized with time how important it is that your blog shows up at the right position in search engine results for your potential customers. It happens when you have optimized your blog posts so that search engines can find them.
And that happens when you have done the SEO on your blog.
SEO is “Search Engine Optimization”. I have used several plugins before I finally settled on Yoast SEO plugin. I can optimize my blog post for search engines very easily. I have to simply add the blog post title, meta description and keywords that are optional.
When I write down all the meta description, the plugin shows me the snippet that search engines are going to see once my blog post goes live. I can modify the content based on if it is showing the focus keyword I set for it.
#6. Picmonkey, Make Beautiful Visuals
Visual contents have become popular with the rise of social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram. Visual images are much more appealing to people than ever before.
Pinterest is also one of my topmost referral traffic sources. That’s why I make sure that I make the images in my blog posts pinnable. To create these images I use image creating software like Picmonkey and Canva.
