This project has been on my mind for quite a while. We are in the process of renovating and decorating SV’s room. I got some brilliant ideas from this guest post about unique diy decor ideas for boy’s room written by Megan. I have been meaning to add some personalized touch as well.
While browsing ideas on making something homemade, I came across so many different variety of DIY photo frames that I wanted to make one myself. Valentine’s Day is also not too far away, so I also wanted to add a heart or two in this project. This will help us remember that we did this craft around Valentine’s Day.
This was a surprise for SV. By the time he came home from his preschool, we had it hanging on the wall in his room. He noticed it just as he entered his room, went up to it, and said, “What a pretty picture of SV”. He actually had me take it off the wall, hold it, admiring and looking at the photo frame, paying attention to each and every detail. He asked about the glittering hearts. We told him that they mean, We Heart You! He said while giggling, Me Too! Then gave the photo frame back to me to put it back up on the wall.
That was so cute! We loved his reaction! It was priceless!
This diy popsicle stick photo frame craft is very easy to make. You just need a few items that you may already have at home. Main thing you’d need is different colored popsicle sticks, glue gun and your child’s picture. You can use ribbon or use another popsicle stick instead of ribbon. You can use these flowers or use glitter ribbon to cut out the hearts. Basically use whatever you have available at home at the time.
First off you need a base to stick the popsicle sticks to. I used this candy cane box. Cut one side with the scissors and made the base out of it.
Take one popsicle stick and put some glue using the glue gun.
Stick it on the cardboard base. Repeat the same with rest of the popsicle sticks.
This is how it will look like once they are all glued to the cardboard base.
Cut off the extra sides using the scissors.
This is what your base of the photo frame will look like.
Paste two popsicle sticks diagonally on the sides of the base photo frame.
Cut a ribbon and using the glue, paste it on the base photo frame, starting the edge from diagonal Popsicle stick.
Cut off the extra ribbon from the sides.
The theme being the Valentine’s Day, we decided to paste some hearts on the diagonal popsicle sticks. Take two glitter ribbons – red and blue. Cut out three small hearts each from these two ribbons.
Paste them on the diagonal popsicle sticks.
To paste the photo in the center of the photo frame, put some glue on the back of the picture and stick it in the middle of the photo frame.
To hang it with the wall, cut out some jute thread. On the back of the photo frame, put some glue. Stick the jute thread on the glue and keep it that way for sometime so that it sticks with the photo frame cardboard base. Repeat this step with the other side of the jute thread.
Hang it on the wall. Your child will love it!
